Problem with my laptop...estimate on how much this is going to cost me?

Im completely clueless about laptops, I dont know any of the terminologies etc. Somebody bought me mine around October of last year, and im not really in contact with him anymore so i dont know if i have a warranty on it and i cant exactly find out. I've been having problems with the battery..since always, its been EXTREMELY slow UNLESS i hook it up to the charger, in which case it would function fine. But now, its developed a new problem where the battery wont charge when its connected, in the little battery icon it says "connected, not charging", so basically i have to hook the laptop to the charger for the laptop to function, but its not charging. the only time it charges is when the battery is completely dead and the computer is off and even then, it doesnt charge, it blinks, so it takes more than overnight to charge...i guess its clear i need a new battery? or do i need a new charger? Which ever one i need, can someone give me a guess on how much it will cost? Its an Acer Aspire.

I think you need a new battery, and that *should* fix it. I suppose there could be a hardware problem with the computer or charger itself, but it's probably the battery. Which cost about $100 each. You can search online for laptop batteries for that particular laptop. Here's a link to start you off: http://www.laptopbatteries.com/laptop-ba...
I don't know how reliable that site is (never used it) but if you can find something on newegg.com, amazon.com, tigerdirect.com that should be reliable. Even ebay may have a battery. You may also be able to get one directly from Acer.

If the laptop was bought last October, it should still be under warranty (most laptops come with a 1 year warranty). Just call Acer and tell them your problem.

And in the future, get MacBooks. Apple products are very hardy and reliable, and they are simple to use, especially for people who don't already know much about computers. Even other companies like Dell or Compaq should be higher quality than Acer, from what I hear.
