my hp presario has three ram slots how much memory can i add?

i'm running windows vista premium right now i have 768mb of ram thats 3-256mb of ram installed now but i wanted to buy and put in 1-512mb of ram and take out 1-256mb of ram. so then i would have 1024mb of ram equivalant to 1gb or can i add 3-512mb of ram in each of the three slots please help.

I think your system will not able to consume 512 MB Ram in 3 slots. Your Laptop hp presario coming with total 512 MB ram . So 1 GB Ram would be enough to you.

So if you want to upgrade your Laptop Memory to 1 GB then use 256 in 2 slots and 562 in 3rd slot.
