i am not an exprert nor do i have a 2nd generation but the addition of the external buttons and the speaker implanted in them would make a 1st G case awkward....so its hard case is no good silicon case is going to be annoying because of the buttons and the shape.....if u have a 2nd then get a 2nd case if you have a first get a first.
